only in minnesota…

…would a potluck sign-up list include multiple entries of “some kind of meatball.” Because, as we all know, meatballs are their own food group.

Darn Swedes. Between meatballs, lefse, hot dishes, jell-o salads and swedish cream the whole sign-up list is always full. And honestly – how can you call it a salad when the ingredients are crushed up Snickers bars, granny smith apples, and tubs upon tubs of Cool Whip?

  1. >Honey, that last recipe is Desert! mmmmm! What I love is that there will be at least 3 kinds of meatballs at that potluck: Swedish, Norwegian, and bbq…if not multiples of each.At least there wasn’t a sign-up for lutefisk.

  2. >You forgot the other Minnesota food group…Tater Tots. Sadly, I miss those wretched Leanne Chin “cream cheese” wontons. Another Minnesota invention.

  3. >not fainthearted – I’m sure some lutefisk will make an appearance – doesn’t it always? It’s like a Minnesotan party game, daring each other to eat some!Luke – maybe they cut it up? I don’t know – whatever creates small pieces off Snickers bar that can easily be coated with Cool Whip. And I kid you not on this – I’ve had it multiple times. Once it was even introduced as “fruit salad” (!).SBW – oh, yes, there will be a hotdish. I believe it even said it would be a tater tot hot dish – so Laura, you were right on!!larissa – I’m with you! unfortunately, I’m not much of a meatball eater. I just have to make something I like (usually lasagna) so I can eat!!sweetisu – does this mean that someday I’m going to like this stuff if we keep living here? Or worse, that Olive is going to like it all? Meatballs, okay, but… HOT DISH?!?! Heaven forbid!!
